A painter falls from an extension ladder and is hospitalized

A painter was climbing down a 24-ft. aluminum extension ladder which was resting against the deck of a house. He was descending from the top of the ladder to the ground when the ladder slipped. The ladder was resting on a slope. Small dugouts in the soil were made to place the ladder's feet for stability. The employee fell and hit his left leg against the edge of a tree stump, causing a severe laceration. The employee was hospitalized and required surgery. The ladder was not secured to prevent movement.
