Investigation Summary
At approximately 9:03 a.m. on April 18, 2002, Employee #1 was repairing a hydraulic bed-type trailer in the yard. The bed of the trailer, which is raised and lowered by a switch, was not functioning properly. The employee installed a test battery on the trailer after he repaired some wires. He then placed a jack stand on the tongue of the trailer for support. As he was raising the bed of the trailer into the transport position, the tongue was tilted in a downward angle causing it to slip forward and off of the jack stand. The trailer rolled forward and struck the employee on his left leg and ankle. He was hospitalized with his injuries. The employee had worked as a Maintenance and Yard Person for United Rentals Company for 3 years prior to the accident.
