Employee amputated thumb on a miter saw

At approximately 10:15 a.m. on November 15, 2001, Employee #1 and a coworker were cutting aluminum on the miter saw. They were in need of one more mullion of about 38.5 in. Employee #1 positioned one side of aluminum on the saw and secured it with his left hand. As he started cutting, the saw blade grabbed the aluminum pulling his hand into the blade. The blade amputated his left thumb. He was hospitalized to receive surgical and postoperative treatment for the damage sustained in the amputation.
