Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170886642
Event: 11/12/1996
Employee injured when tractor accident rolls down embankment

At approximately 1:00 p.m. on November 12, 1996, Employee #1 was driving an agricultural tractor with seven empty transplanting beds attached to it down a sloped roadway. When he stopped the tractor to change to a lower gear, he reportedly felt the empty transplant beds hit the rear of the tractor, causing him to lose control of it. Continuing downhill, he drove into a dirt wall on the right side of the road. The tractor ran across the wall and then veered to the left side of the road and went over the 300 ft embankment. About 100 ft down, the transplant beds separated from the tractor. The tractor turned over several times before coming to rest in a clump of trees. Employee #1 sustained a fractured pelvis and ribs, a punctured lung, and numerous abrasions and lacerations over his entire body.
