Employee Injures Head When Pinned by Scissor Lift

On November 8, 2004, Employee #1, a mechanic for United Rentals, was performing safety checks on an electric JLG scissor lift (Model Number 3969E, Serial Number 200049273). He was operating the ground controls in the opposite direction. The misdirection of the controls caused the equipment to move backward instead of forward, the desired direction of Employee #1. He was pinned between the wall and the scissor lift, causing injuries to his head. Employee #1 was transported to San Jose Medical Center where he was hospitalized for 2 days and treated for head injuries.
