Investigation Summary
On 1/12/08, an injury occurred to an employee of Meadowood Resort LLC at 1240 Hours. The employer reported the injury to the Division on 1/12/08 at 1744 Hours. I opened the inspection on January 15, 2008 at about 1100 Hours. I held an opening conference with the Grounds Supervisor and the Director of Human Resources. The employer operates a secluded resort surrounded by two hundred fifty wooded acres. The employer employs approximately four hundred employees who provide various services to the guests while maintaining the resort and grounds. The injured employee was in the process of splitting logs for the resort. The employee amputated his finger tip when the slide plate located behind the splitting wedge came in contact with his hand that was located on the top side of the log being split. The equipment involved in the accident was a Duerr vertical log splitter. Model PRO/20. The employee was employed by the employer at the time of injury.
