Employee Fractures Ankle While Securing Load with Chain

At approximately 6:45 a.m. on June 30, 2006, Employee #1, a contract employee working at a vineyard, was tying down equipment on a flatbed truck using a 0.375-inch carbon steel chain that was 14 feet long. He was securing the load when one of the chain links failed. The sudden movement caused the employee to shift his weight onto his right lower leg and he fractured his ankle. He was hospitalized with his injury.
