Investigation Summary
On May 6, 1999, the helper of a garbage truck was injured. As the driver of the garbage truck backed up, Employee #1 stepped from the stepboard to go to the rear of the truck in order to guide the driver. As Employee #1 was walking alongside the truck, his left foot was caught by the front tire, which knocked him to the ground. Employee #1's right leg was run over by the front tire. He suffered lacerations and dislocations of his left toes and a fractured fibula and chipped knee cap of his right leg.
