Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170888705
Event: 10/17/1996
ELECTRIC SHOCK - CONTACT WITH OVERHEAD LINE THRU TREE LIMB

A line-clearance tree trimmer was removing a tree from the right of way for an overhead power line. He was being assisted by his supervisor, who was on the ground. The tree trimmer was 16.8 to 18.3 meters above the ground in the tree, moving a limb away from the power line. The employee was using a rope to move the limb, which was above the power line. He was electrocuted when the 150-millimeter-diameter, 4.6-meter-long limb wedged him in the crotch of the tree and contacted the 21-kilovolt power line.
