Employee's finger amputated in metal conveyor

Employee #1 was spraying water from a garden hose to clean the custom-fabricated screw conveyor of the grape press at a winery. He was standing on a 14 3/8 in. tall inverted plastic bucket to see into the work area when he lost his balance and grabbed the edge of a metal conveyor from which the guard had been removed for cleaning. Employee #1's left index finger was amputated to the first joint. At the time of the accident, he was working alone at his regularly assigned tasks.
