Employee injured when arm caught in conveyor belt assembly

At approximately 9:00 p.m. on July 17, 1998, Employee #1 was cleaning the lower end of conveyor #2 when his right hand and arm became caught in the moving tail of the pulley conveyor belt assembly. He sustained injuries that required hospitalization. Employee #1 later stated that, against company policy, he had placed a broomstick between the conveyor's jog switch and the wall to override the switch and keep the conveyor running.
