Investigation Summary
Employee #1 worked as a laborer for a grading company. To prepare a site for a flood control dam, a small number of various kinds of trees had to be cut. The employee used a chain saw to fell a tree approximately 10 in. in diameter. The cut was completely made, but the tree split as it was falling and kicked back toward the employee. The base of the tree struck the employee on the left side of his head. Employee #1 died two days later.
