Investigation Summary
Employee #1 had designed a piece of equipment for the West Valley Police Department's cars. To make the prototype, he was dadoing a piece of alder wood at an angle of 4 degrees, feeding it backward through the blade. He had lowered the wood over the blade and was trying to hold it down when the board kicked back, exposing his hand to the dado blade. His hand dropped onto the blade, which cut the tendons and muscles of the left little and ring fingers. Employee #1 was attended to by fellow employees and taken to the emergency room of Saint Mark's Hospital, where he was hospitalized.
