ELECTRIC SHOCK - CONTACT WITH OVERHEAD LINE THRU METAL ROD

TWO CONSTRUCTION LABORERS ("HOD CARRIERS") WERE WORKING FROM A 15-FOOT-HIGH TUBULAR, WELDED FRAME SCAFFOLD. THEY WERE DROPPING A 20-FOOT-LONG, 0.5-INCH-DIAMETER REINFORCING ROD INTO A 19.33-FOOT-HIGH CONCRETE BLOCK WALL. A 7200-VOLT OVERHEAD POWER LINE WAS LOCATED ABOUT 11.5 FEET ABOVE THE SCAFFOLD (26.5 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND). THE REINFORCING ROD CONTACTED THE POWER LINE, AND THE EMPLOYEES RECEIVED ELECTRIC SHOCKS. ONE OF THEM WAS ELECTROCUTED; THE OTHER WAS HOSPITALIZED OVERNIGHT FOR OBSERVATION AND FOR TREATMENT OF INJURIES HE SUSTAINED TO HIS LEFT HAND AND KNEE.
