Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170390314
Event: 02/13/1996
Employee killed in apparent fall

At approximately 12:45 a.m. on February 13, 1996, Employee #1 was delivering a crane wheel to the #4 BOF. Apparently, he was attempting to gain access to the bed of his truck when he fell, fracturing his right femur. There were no witnesses to the incident. Employee #1 was found lying next to the passenger side door of his truck. He complained of right leg pain and was transported to St. Catherine's Hospital, where he died of apparent complications from surgery. He was unable to be interviewed prior to his death. Employee #1 had numerous underlying medical problems, any of which could have resulted in his death without the fractured leg. His body was released from the hospital to the funeral parlor and the county coroner's office was not notified, so the exact cause of death could not be determined..
