Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 956482
Event: 08/12/1992
Employee's fingers amputated in saw blade

At approximately 10:30 a.m. on August 12, 1992, Employee #1 was operating a Rockwell cutoff saw, serial #DL7285, to manufacture window sills. He was cutting 3/4 in. by 3/4 in. notches on 3 ft lengths of 2 by 4 lumber. While Employee #1 ripped a notch using a push stick, the stick apparently became caught in the blade, pulling his right hand into the saw. The blade amputated his middle and ring fingers at the second joint. Employee #1 was transported by paramedics to University of California Medical Center in Sacramento, CA, where he was admitted for treatment.
