Employee killed when crushed by limb after falling from tree

Employee #1 was cutting dead wood from a 12 in. diameter oak tree while harnessed to a tree limb by his flip line. He made a face cut and then started on the back cut. When he was several inches into the back cut, the limb cracked (barber chaired), broke, and fell approximately 24 ft to the ground, taking Employee #1 with it. As he hit the ground, the limb rolled on top of him. Two coworkers saw the event and rushed to free Employee #1 by sawing approximately 10 ft off the limb. Employee #1 was transported to Salem Memorial Hospital, where he died.
