Employees injured when crushed under 11 tons of rebar

At about 10:00 a.m. on July 9, 1993, Employees #1, #2, #3, and a coworker were tying horizontal rebar inside an 80 foot circular rebar column also known as a "slinky." This slinky was set up on a wood structure called a "bed." The bed collapsed while the workers were inside the rebar column. Employees #1 through #3 were trapped underneath approximately 11 tons of rebar. All three Employees suffered fractured legs and ankles, and one employee fractured his pelvis.
