Two employees injured when struck by falling tree

The operator of a 963 Caterpillar front end loader was attempting to pick up a brush pile with its bucket when the teeth of the bucket became caught in tree roots. To free the bucket, the operator tilted the bucket, uprooting the 40 ft tree. The falling tree fell toward three workers and struck two. Employee #1 was struck on the head by the falling tree and suffered severe injuries to his head, neck, and middle back. He was flown to Fairfax Hospital by Air Lift. Employee #2 suffered only minor injuries to his right shoulder and required no medical treatment.
