ELECTRIC SHOCK - DIRECT CONTACT WITH OVERHEAD LINE

A power line worker for an electric utility was working from the bucket of an aerial lift. He was replacing a fuse on one phase of a three-phase, 13.8-kilovolt overhead power line. The employee maneuvered the bucket too close to the top of the cutout. The left side of his head contacted the energized portion of the cutout at the same time the left side of his back contacted the open fuse barrel. He received an electric shock and was hospitalized for his injury. He subsequently died from a stroke.
