Investigation Summary
At approximately 1:34 p.m. on September 29, 1997, Employee #1 was at the back of a body shop, cutting a drum of Foremost 1040 body coat that still contained aromatic hydrocarbons and dimethyl ketone. He was using a cutting torch when the drum exploded. Employee #1 sustained lacerations to his chest and shoulder from flying debris, and his heart, arm, shoulder, and chest were bruised. After striking him, the lid of the drum blew off, went over the top of the roof, and landed about 50 ft from the site of the explosion.
