Employee killed when run over by backing tractor trailer

At approximately 1:00 p.m. on August 4, 1993, Employee #1, a switchman who directs locomotive cranes, was walking behind a backing tractor trailer in the scrap yard when the tractor trailer ran him over. Witnesses observed the employee walking in the same direction as the truck was backing when the tractor trailer overtook and crushed him. Nine of the eighteen wheels of the partially-loaded tractor trailer passed over Employee #1. He sustained multiple fractures and crushed organs and was pronounced dead on site.
