ELECTRIC SHOCK - DIRECT CONTACT WITH OVERHEAD LINE

Two power line workers had returned from lunch to complete the installation of a parallel groove crimp connector on a 480-volt service drop. One of the employees, working from the bucket of an aerial lift truck, checked to ensure that the disconnects were still open and returned to the work area. His coworker remained on the ground, monitoring radio communications. When the coworker looked up, he did not see the employee in the aerial lift, who had slumped into the bucket. While installing the crimp connector, the employee in the aerial lift had apparently contacted an energized part and was electrocuted.
