Employee fractures pelvis in trench cave-in

Employee #1 and two coworkers were in a 6 ft deep sewer trench installing pipe. No shoring was in use even though the soil had been previously excavated. One side of the trench was benched; one side was not. A side wall caved in and trapped Employee #1. He was removed by coworkers and transported to the Cocke County Baptist Hospital. Employee #1 suffered a fractured pelvis.
