Employee's finger amputated by miter saw

On April 14, 2003, Employee #1, working for Alder Creek Millwork, was cutting stiles and rails for cabinet doors. The employee was using a double-blade miter saw with a pneumatic foot control that moves the blades vertically up and down. He was using both hands to hold a piece of wood when the wood became stuck in one of the blades. As the blade retracted into the starting position, it pulled the employee's hand with it and cut off the tip of his right index finger. The employee was transported to U.C. Medical Center in Sacramento, CA for treatment.
