Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 202462925
Event: 12/19/2005
Employee's Leg Fractured by Falling Drywall

At approximately 9:28 a.m. on December 19, 2005, Employee #1, an electrician's helper on a multiemployer worksite, was looking for an electrical box in a hallway when a stack of drywall fell on his left leg and fractured his tibia and fibula. He was hospitalized. The stack of drywall was composed of 20, 4-ft by 12-ft boards and weighed over 2,000 lb. According to Employee #1, the stack just fell on him. According to a coworker who witnessed the event, Employee #1's hands were on the boards when they fell. The boards were "too upright" according to the coworker. Managers from other contracting companies said when they interviewed the coworker, he stated that Employee #1 was pulling the boards back. The general contractor, the drywall contractor, and the drywall delivery company stated the drywall stack was at the correct angle.
