Employee's thumb is injured in milling machine

At 11:20 a.m. on July 2, 2003, Employee #1 was operating a Sharp OMV-50 Mill machine to make a new fixture from a block of plastic at J.R. Studios. A 1-in. diameter T-cutter was secured into the spindle of machine, however the plastic block was not secured to the machine bed. While maneuvering the block around the cutter manually, Employee # 1 lost control of it and his thumb contacted the cutter. He was hospitalized at Kaiser in Northridge for amputation of his left thumb at the first knuckle.
