Employee suffers concussion and fracture in fall from ladder

At approximately 2:00 p.m. on December 22, 1994, Employee #1, who worked for of Anthony Piro, a contractor, was on a 14 ft long A-type metal ladder patching holes in dry wall. The ladder, which was leaning against the wall, slipped to the left, causing Employee #1 to fall to the right. Employee #1 hit his right leg on a barricade, then fell on his back on a hard floor. He sustained a concussion and a compression fracture of the first lumbar vertebra. Employee #1 was taken to Methodist Hospital in Arcadia and hospitalized for five days. After the investigation, the employer was cited for a serious violation of T8CCR 1675(j) and a general violation of T8CCR 1509(b).
