Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201058427
Event: 01/27/2004
Employee burned after slipping while carrying scalding water

At approximately 9:30 a.m. on January 27, 2004, an employee, a chef of the Sam Woo Restaurant, was assisting another chef in the BBQ preparation kitchen area. The employee had been asked by another chef to assist him in carrying a large pot filled with scalding water to a floor drain located approximately 15 ft away. As the employee was moving the pot toward the floor drain with another chef, his left foot lost traction due to the presence of grease on the floor. The employee slipped onto his back and caused the scalding water to splash out and onto him. The employee was transported to the Sherman Oaks Hospital and then transferred to the Grossman Burn Unit, where he was admitted and stayed for four days. The employee suffered second degree burns to his left forearm, left upper arm and both left and right sides of his upper back.
