Employee injured while moving an I-beam

On March 7, 2003, Employee #1, a fitter/layout worker for a steel fabrication shop, was using an overhead hoist to place an I-beam on a nearby workhorse. The beam was approximately 30-feet long by 12-inches wide. During this process, Employee #1 attempted to adjust the beam in order for it to sit at the outer edge of the workhorse. For some reason, the back end of the beam slid off of the workhorse and struck Employee #1 on the lower portion of his left leg. Employee #1 was hospitalized at Mercy Hospital and treated for a fracture.
