Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 202484887
Event: 02/25/2007
Employee Is Pinned by Vehicle and Sustaines Fractured Leg

On February 25, 2007, Employee #1 was a manager who was helping a coworker deliver food and supplies to a break room for an Employee Recognition event. One coworker was driving a burden carrier with a flat bed that held the supplies and Employee #1 was the passenger in the two-seated vehicle. Upon arriving at the destination, the coworker exited the vehicle without turning the key to the off position or applying the hand brake. The coworker reached the back of the vehicle by the time Employee #1 had one leg out of the vehicle. At that point, speculation indicates a bag fell onto the accelerator and the burden carrier began to move. It pinned Employee #1's right leg between the vehicle and a nearby sturdy barrier, breaking her femur and injuring her knee. The vehicle then hit the barrier, bounced off, changed directions and took off with the coworker in pursuit. Employee #1 was hospitalized.
