Cowboy's thumb amputated when caught by rope knot

At approximately 1:00 p.m. on July 11, 1995, Employee #1, a cowboy employed by Sierra Valley Ranch, was attempting to tie a horse in a stall for shoeing. The horse spooked and Employee #1's left thumb was pinched in a half hitch on the lead rope. The thumb was amputated at the knuckle. He was hospitalized.
