Employee's thumb crushed by falling bogie plate

Employee #1 was attaching a bogie plate onto a steel work platform. The plate comes in two pieces to fit around a shaft and weighs about 30 lb. He set the top half on the shaft and was starting to bolt the two sections together when the top half slipped from the shaft and fell. His left thumb was crushed. Employee #1 was taken to the hospital, treated, and released.
