Employee's finger nearly amputated in chop saw

At about 7:30 a.m. on January 19, 1995, Employee #1, of Torben Pedersen Woodcrafts, was working in the wood cabinet shop in Roseville, CA. He was cutting 3 to 4 in. blocks from strips of 8 ft long, 3/4 in. by 1 1/2 in. particle board. While sliding the strip down the saw table to the stop with his left hand, he raised his left hand up into the saw blade of a 14 in. miter saw. His left index finger was nearly amputated. Minor first aid was given at the site and then Employee #1 was driven to Roseville General Hospital. His severed finger was reattached by the doctor. The bottom of the entire saw blade was guarded.
