Employee burned when weed fire flares backward

At 3:45 p.m. on May 11, 1996, Employee #1 was working on a rice farm. He was burning weeds in a ditch that ran between a rice field and an irrigation pump. The fire flared back, and Employee #1 suffered second-degree burns to his left arm and face. He later stated that a gust of wind might have caused the fire to flare back at him.
