Employee injured in fall from scaffold

On June 19, 2002, Employee #1, a carpenter, was remodeling a commercial building that had been damaged by fire. Employee #1 was installing a wood scaffold with brackets to 2- in. by 4-in. studs that were the same as the lower studs. As Employee #1 was installing the scaffold work platform, a stud to which a bracket was attached broke, causing the entire scaffold to collapse. Employee #1 fell 13 ft 8 in. to a concrete floor and sustained fractures of the back vertebrae, both ankles, knees, and fingers. He was hospitalized.
