Investigation Summary

On December 19, 2002, Employee #1, who was working for the State of California Department of General Services, was part of a 3-man crew assigned to remove several sunscreens dangling from a window at the EDD office building. Using an extension ladder, Employee #1 climbed the ladder while the other two employees held onto the ladder. As Employee #1 was trying to twist a large screen off its track, a gust of wind caught the screen and Employee #1 lost his balance and fell onto the flat roof the crew was working from, landing on his feet. Medical assistance was called. The City of Sacramento Fire Department responded and transported Employee #1 to University of California at Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, California. Employee #1 fractured both legs and was released from the hospital on January 24, 2003.
