Fire fighter burned in house fire

Employee #1 and a coworker, fire fighters for the Los Angeles City Fire Department, entered a burning building in Mission Hills, CA. Employee #1 was in front and was controlling the hose while the coworker was right behind him as a back up. The hose was not yet activated. When they reached a section of the building where the heat became too intense, they decided to back out. When they were outside the building, they noticed that the tips of Employee #1's ears were red and the knuckles of his left hand were blistering. He suffered third-degree burns on the tips of his ears, and burns to the knuckles and tip of the thumb on his left hand.
