Investigation Summary
Employee #1, of Custom Woodcraft, Inc., was cutting 9/16 in. deep cuts into a 2 1/8 in. by 3/4 in. by 2 ft 4 1/2 in. piece of hard wood with a Porter-Cable router, model 690, with router base 1001. She was holding the router with her right hand instead of with both hands and was using her left hand to hold the piece of wood. Employee #1 was also operating the router in the wrong direction. The router bound up and jumped out of the cut, hitting the employee's left index finger and lacerating it. Employee #1 was hospitalized for less than 24 hours.
