Investigation Summary
On October 16, 1995, Employee #1, a presser at Paige Cleaners, Newbury Park, CA, was operating an Ajax sleeve pressing machine, model C-S, serial #EJ 11668520. Her right hand became caught between the hot surfaces of the sleeve press and she suffered second- and third-degree burns to her hand, thumb, middle, and index fingers. The sleeve press was not properly guarded. Coworkers were present at the time of the accident, but there were no direct witnesses.
