Employee fractures sternum in fall from stepladder

At approximately 3:40 p.m. on November 2, 1995, Employee #1, of William K. Gamble Law Firm, Santa Maria, CA, was standing on the top step of a wooden 2 ft 2 in. high, three step stepladder to repair a ceiling acoustic tile that was 7 1/2 ft high. She was standing on the back portion of the step, causing the stepladder to collapse. She fell and was taken to the hospital, where she was treated for a fractured sternum and released two hours later. The brace on the ladder was not secure enough to hold the front and back sections apart. Two general citations were issued to the employer.
