Employee's finger amputated in table saw

Employee #1, of Paramount Pictures, Hollywood, CA, was using a table saw to cut 1 in. by 3 in. pine timber into wedges. A jig had been designed to hold the lumber stock while diagonal cuts were made. On his first attempt, the board kicked back and the employee's forward momentum caused his left hand to strike the saw blade, amputating his middle finger. He was admitted to Cedar-Sinai Hospital for treatment.
