Employee injured when roof collapses

At 2:25 p.m. on July 13, 1992, Employee #1 was standing on a roof when a joist failed and the roof collapsed. The plywood paneling and Employee #1 fell approximately 25 ft to the concrete floor. He sustained elbow and knee injuries, and his brain meninges were torn. Coworkers called 911 and administered first aid until paramedics arrived and transported Employee #1 to a local hospital. Subsequent investigation revealed that the joist separated from its glue bond, allowing the web material to pull loose from the top and bottom chords of the joist.
