Employee suffers amputation while using a roll press

At approximately 3:20 p.m. on November 5, 2001, an employee working at Earth & Ocean Sports in Madera, California was pushing Styrofoam through a roll press when the plastic become warped, and rather then flip the plastic sheet, the employee tried to force the assembly through the rollers of the roll press. The employee grabbed the assembly adjacent to the rollers. During the process of pushing the plastic down into the rollers of the roll press, the employee's right hand became caught between the rollers. The Employee's left hand was also caught in the roll press when he attempted to extract the right hand. The Employee suffered extensive crushing damage to four fingers on the right hand causing the fingers to be amputated.
