Employee asphyxiated from apron being pulled into machine

On July 24, 2001, Employee #1 was using a machine that strips leaves and thorns from rose stems for a floral arrangement. As he placed the stems into the machine, a portion of his apron contacted the rotating parts of machine. The hard rubber tines of the machine began pulling the apron into the machine. He tried shutting off the machine; however the upper loop of the apron twisted around his neck choking him. He became unconscious from the constrictive forces upon his trachea preventing him from breathing. He was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment, but succumbed to the lack of oxygen to the brain and died.
