On October 25, 2001, Employee #1 was sweeping up debris on the shoulder of the highway working inside a "lane closure" area that had been set up to do repair on the freeway. Traffic was slow in lane number three through the lane closure area when an out of control vehicle drove through the lane closure cones and struck Employee #1. Employee #1 was hospitalized and treated for multiple fractures.
