Employee's leg crushed when forklift overturns off ramp

At approximately 3:30 p.m. on October 30, 1995, Employee #1 was steering a Yale 25 forklift while a coworker pulled it up a 16 degree sloped ramp using a chain attached to a Caterpillar 428 backhoe. The forklift's left front wheel rolled off the side of the left ramp, causing the forklift to overturn to the left. Employee #1 tried to jump clear of the vehicle as it fell, but his right leg became caught and was crushed under the overhead protector. He suffered a compound fracture of his leg, for which he was hospitalized. The accident occurred at the A & R facility, Big Pine, CA.
