Employee shot in head by nail from nail gun

At approximately 3:30 p.m. on October 27, 1992, an employee was using a nail gun to nail a wall panel above a doorway. He was on a ladder that was placed in front of the doorway; the ladder was not barricaded or guarded. Employee #1 was walking through the doorway to remove the shiner nails from the wall when the nail gun accidentally shot an 8-penny nail into his head. Employee #1 was not wearing a hard hat and was seriously injured. He was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center for treatment. The nail gun operator and Employee #1 were both experienced employees.
