Investigation Summary
At approximately 10:49 a.m. on February 26, 2001, Employee #1, a 35-year-old plant operator and mechanic, lost two fingers on his left hand while he was disassembling a motor-driven pump. As he was disassembling the pump, the system pressure forcefully ejected the pump's impeller from its respective pump housing, amputating his two fingers. He was employed by FPL Energy, Operating Services Incorporated, and the accident occurred at his employer's solar electrical generation facility. Employee #1 was transported by paramedics to the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released.
