Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201111523
Event: 02/22/1999
Employee Falls Off A Ladder While Using A Nail Gun

On February 22, 1999, Employee #1, a carpenter, fell off a five foot ladder while using a nail gun. Employee #1 was constructing a new home at the construction site of Centex Homes, which was located in Valencia, California. He was standing on the second step of a five foot step ladder using a pneumatic nail gun to install plywood sheeting on the side of a new single family home construction project. He was hired by Kelly Construction Company. Employee #1 apparently got his forehead too close to the nail gun, and the recoil of the gun hit him in the forehead. The impact caused him to fall off the ladder. As he fell, he tried to grab the gun with his left hand, but he accidentally fired a nail into his finger. He suffered lacerations in his finger. He was taken to Henry Mayo Hospital for emergency treatment where he was treated and released.
